Welcome to AMS Library

Welcome to the AMS Library

The AMS Media Center encourages students to use the resources in their quest for
knowledge in all content areas. Mrs. Olson, the librarian, encourages students to develop a passion for reading and expanding their imagination to include people and events from all over the world through the wonderful world of books. Mrs. Lynn,  our library aide, assist students checking out books and keeps everything in correct order so resources can be easily accessed.
The library has been decorated, painted, and recarpeted over the past  year giving the students a bright and cheerful place to come and read.  Several projects were planned in order for these changes to be made. Our principal, board, and superintendent graciously provided funds needed for these projects. Students, friends, and family planned and painted the drawing of the garden of flowers around the circulation desk with accent colors on the doors and walls.

The Tag  Art Classes under the guidance of Janet Strain designed and painted our chairs illustrating the works of various authors.

                                       Research and Accelerated Reader

Our students work very hard reading both fiction and nonfiction books, taking AR test, and earning AR points. This of course isn't their only motivation for reading but it is a good way to monitor and assess the areas they need to improve in. Our teachers also do an outstanding job in discussing books and resources in the classroom. The students then ask about certain books that have been discussed in class. We invariably run out of copies and then have a wait list for these quality books. Content and elective teachers also guide students in projects which involve research and creativity. We all try to increase our research skills using books, Internet sources, and databases available through websites such as Alabama Virtual Library.

Dedication in Memory of Two Very Special Teachers

Our faculty lost a wonderful teacher Mrs. Karen Coggins in October of 2005. Mrs. Coggins taught Special Education for tens years. We wanted to honor her by donating books and designating a special area in the library for remembering her. AMS also grieved over the sickness and passing of Vickie Crawford who was the media specialist from 2002-2005. A student will be chosen at the end of the year who exemplifies what each of these teachers so aptly taught in our day to day activities at AMS.
